How old is ‘old’?

My new landlady is a very talented person who amazes me by showing how lively can an elderly women be. There are two pianos in the living room, as well as a cello and her paintings everywhere... Maybe it is not true to call Dutch people elderly before they are 70 or 80, because they are even healthier and energetic than I am,even in their 60s. In Turkey, getting old means you will need help from someone to continue to your daily life because of the backaches or because you do not know how to use a cell phone or the internet etc. In the primary school all the young people are taught to give their seats to elderly people in the bus or to help them carrying the bags. But here, getting old does not mean that your normal life finishes and you become dependent to the others. My landlady climbs the steep stairs in the house with her high - heeled shoes whereas I can hardly do it with my boots making me question which one of us is ‘older’…
